Police Rescue Another Man Locked Up For 30 Years in Kano

Police in Kano State, Northwest Nigeria, have rescued a 55-year-old man locked up for 30 years in Rogo Local Government of the state.

A human rights activist, Sani Shu’aibu, told BBC Hausa that the man who was locked up suffered from mental illness and spent 30 years in a room with no doors.

Shu’aibu, according to a report by BBC, informed the police of the pathetic condition of the victim after he knew about it.

According to Shu’aibu, the father of the man decided to lock him up instead of taking him to a psychiatric hospital after he started beating up people when he was young.

Police in Kano State have confirmed the incident.

The Spokesman for the Police, Abdullahi Haruna, said an investigation was underway on the matter.

This is the third time persons locked up by their families have been rescued in Kano State within one week.
