The police in Kano State, Northwest Nigeria, have arrested a man, Gambo Yakubu, 30, for allegedly impersonating a Captain of Super Eagles, Ahmad Musa.
The police command also said it arrested a 50-year-old, his son and grandson over the murder of a man and his daughter.
The police made the developments known in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in Kano, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on Tuesday evening.
Kiyawa said that on March 25, at about 11:30 p.m. the police received a complaint from one Musa Muhammad of Hotoro Quarters, Kano, Manager of Ahmad Musa Sport Centre in Kano, that one Gambo Yakubu of Brigade Quarters, Kano, a former worker at the centre, was presenting himself as former Ahmad Musa.
The suspect forged documents bearing the name Ahmad Musa and defrauded innocent members of the public, the police said.
The police said that on receipt of the complaint, the Commissioner of Police, Habu Ahmad Sani, raised a team of detectives led by CSP Abdulkarim Abdullahi, to arrest the culprit.
The police said on December 20, the suspect was arrested and he freely confessed to defrauding more than 15 persons by collecting money from them pretending to be Ahmad Musa and selling forms at N5,000 each to youths who wished to play football abroad.
Kiyawa said the suspect collected N700,000 and spent the money on his girlfriends in Sabon Gari area of Kano.
He further said that on August 26, at about 4:10a.m. some persons invaded Madunkuri in Gomo Village of Sumaila Local Government Area, Kano State, attacked and killed one Alhaji Kabiru Ya’u, 30, and his daughter, Harira Kabiru, aged 5.
Kiyawa said on receipt of the report, the commissioner of police immediately raised and directed a team of Operation Puff Adder, led by DSP Shehu Dahiru, to arrest the culprits.
He said the team immediately swung into action, followed up, and on December 19, arrested Adamu Musa, 50, Sule Mallam, 30, and Isyaku Sule, 27 who are father, son and grandson respectively.
HumAngle gathered that all the suspects are of the same address and neighbours to the deceased.
The statement added that on investigation, the father confessed to have directed his three sons and grandson to kill the victims on suspicion that Ya’u was a kidnapper.
The suspects confessed they used machetes and bamboo sticks to hack the victims to death, the police said, adding that investigation was still on for the arrest of the remaining suspects.
Kiyawa said the suspects would be charged to court after completion of investigations.
