Katsina: Terrorists Kill Village Head In Fresh Attack

The head of Mazoji village of Matazu Local government area in Katsina state was killed in a fresh raid on Saturday morning.

The terror group struck the village at about 2am and killed the Sarkin Fulanin Fafu, Alhaji Dikko Usman.

They also injured an undisclosed number of locals and kidnapped several others in the neighbouring community while they exited.

The village is divided into Mazoji A where they launched their attack and Mazoji B, where the group spent several hours terrorizing people before they finally killed the village head in his ward, Mazoji.

HumAngle reports that this attack comes three weeks after the group executed the district head of Yantumaki in Dan Musa Local Government area, Alhaji Atiku Maidabino.

Sources told HumAngle that the group killed only the village head, leaving the community members traumatized.

At the Matazu primary health care center, a health worker, who spoke anonymously, told HumAngle, “I can’t tell you the exactly what happened.

“All I can say is that, some people reported that they sustained injuries as a result of the bandit attacks at their exit from Mazoji and we did not receive any further case from the villages.”

Another source, however, told HumAngle that two dead bodies were found at the exit of the local government and it is believed that they were killed by the terrorists that attacked the community

A community leader, who did not want to be named, told HumAngle, “We are in critical condition now. As I am talking to you now, most the villages have fled left their farmland.

“Matazu is over crowded with refugees from different villages. This is very scary, especially at this farming season.

“In my candid opinion, the killing of Sarkin Fulanin Fafu showed that the bandits are sending clear message that they are in control. Therefore, whosever go against them will be dead.

“If government does not redouble their effort on fight against banditry in the North West region, there may be serious hunger in the nation.

“However, if this insane attacks continue, citizens may decide to defend themselves and this may amount to breakdown of law and order,” he said.

Babawo, a resident of Mazoji said, “I have totally lost confidence in Katsina state. The situation is getting worse every minute and nobody seems to understand our feelings now.

“We are all relocating to another part of the country. We are also Nigerians.”

Several attempts by HumAngle to reach the security agencies or members of the vigilante group, proved abortive.
