Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on Sunday unleashed a daring attack on Ajiri community, Mafa Local Government, Borno State, Northeast Nigeria.
The attack in Ajiri has led to concerns about the security of the garrison town of Dikwa.
Mafa is one of the local government areas the Borno State Government is investing in to rebuild and resettle displaced persons.
It is currently unclear if there was a static military deployment in the area.
About 500 households returned to Ajiri in August 2020, with the state supporting them with low-cost housing, food items and financial aid.
HumAngle has also learnt that Nigerian troops on Saturday, May 1 beat back an ISWAP attack in Rann, the headquarters of Kala Balge Local Government, which is adjacent to Cameroon.
The insurgents in multiple gun trucks and motorcycles were reported to have suffered setbacks.
