Thugs have attacked and dispersed the youths protesting against the insecurity in Kano State of northwestern Nigeria on Thursday, October 15, 2020.
The protesters, inspired by the #EndSARS protests across Nigeria, were expressing their frustrations peacefully in the city when the thugs attacked them with matchets and cutlasses.
”They started stoning us while we were at BUK road and then followed us with different weapons,” one of the protesters told HumAngle.
Several of the protesters were injured, including a journalist, Abba Ibrahim Gwale, who was there to report the peaceful protest.
He told HumAngle that he had to run for his life after he was stoned while interviewing one of the protesters.
Abba got some bruises on his legs and knees before a motorcycle ride saved him by taking him away from the scene.
He said, “We gathered at Kofar Famfo. Unfortunately, a gang of thugs interrupted the protest by beating and stabbing protestants.
“I was beaten with a belt and also stabbed on my hands, after some minutes the thugs disappeared,” Gwale added.
Following the #EndSARs protests across Nigeria, Northern Youth in Kano State, northwest Nigeria, also embarked on a peaceful protest to end insecurity tagged #SecureNorthNow.
The protesters believed that the hoodlums were hired to stop their peaceful protest, which is calling on the government to stop rape, stop banditry and other violent crimes, particularly in northern Nigeria.
Meanwhile, #EndInsecurityNow protest is currently being undergone in many cities across northern Nigeria.
The protest is virtually being supported and endorsed by celebrities and social media influencers from the region.
