Gunmen have killed Mr Benjamin Ekom, a former Treasurer of National Union of Journalist (NUJ), Nasarawa State Council.
The journalist, before he was murdered, served as Information Officer with Akun Local Government of the state.
Ekom, who also worked as Secretary-General of Eggon Cultural and Development Association (ECDA), was killed late on Monday, August 3, 2020, at his house in Washo, Akun.
“Yes, it is true that my subject, who served as the ECDA secretary, was attacked and killed in his house in Washo community by gunmen,” said Galadima-Umbugadu, a monarch in the chiefdom.
“This is unfortunate, barbaric and uncalled,” he added.
The death of the journalist came a few days after an attack in Dausu Community of Nasarawa State which left five persons dead and 14 others still missing.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the corpse of the journalist has been deposited at a hospital in Akwanga, Nasarawa State.
The spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, Nasarawa State Command, Mr. Ramhan Nansel, said he had yet to receive any information on the incident.
Recently, the editor of Premium Times newspaper was abducted in Nasarawa State and released after ransom was paid.
Nasarawa State has witnessed a number of abductions in recent times, including the Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Nasarawa State, Bishop Joseph Masin, in May.
