Gunmen Attack Rice Mill Factory In Kano, Kill One

Unknown gunmen Saturday evening attacked a rice mill factory in Kano State, northwestern Nigeria, and killed a man identified as Alhaji Isa Abubakar.

Sahelian Times reported that the gunmen stormed the factory on Saturday at about 10 pm.

According to an eyewitness, the attackers tried to abduct the man but his resistance triggered them to shoot him.

“They attempted pulling out one man from his car, but he initially resisted. Eventually, they threw him out of the car and shot him in the chest,” he said.

He added that the gunmen ran away with his car and left him in the pool of blood before he was rushed to a hospital.

Abdullahi Kiyawa, Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident and said the victim died in the hospital due to excessive loss of blood.

Kano is recently witnessing a surge in criminality ranging from phone snatching to kidnapping for ransom especially in the remote villages of the state.

In December, some armed men engaged police in a shootout during a successful kidnap of a businessman, Abdullahi Kalos, at Minjibir town, Minjibir Local Government Area of the state.

Police in November 2020 arrested a 24-year-old Habibu Sale, who allegedly kidnapped and killed an eight-year-old Asiya Tasiu in Chikawa village, Gabasawa Local Government Area of the state, after collecting a ransom of N500,000.

A source within Bebeji Local Government Area told HumAngle that gunmen frequently attack his village, sometimes twice in a week.

Experts familiar with the operations of criminals in northern Nigeria have warned that terrorists are steadily moving from Kaduna State to some parts of Kano.
