FCT Administration Moves to Calm Anxiety Over #CoronaVirus

With the footprints of the COVID 19 disease extending across the national landscape in a furious gallop, authorities of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja are assuring residents to be calm and diligent in their hygiene and social distancing protocols adding that there are no plans afoot to impose a total lockdown on the city.

Sanni Abubakar, special assistant on Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), told HumAngle in a telephone interview, Sunday in Abuja, putting paid to speculations that an earlier high-level Sunday meeting was to deliberate on a possible shutdown.

“We [have no plans] to overheat the system,” Mr. Abubakar said, calling on the public to remain calm and listen to what the government officials say instead of relying on rumours.

Mr. Abubakar’s assurances came against the background of swirling concerns that members of the diplomatic community in the city are pacing plans to evacuate their staff for fear of an explosion in the disease which, in the span of one week, across the nation, revealed an additional 75 positive cases, a frightening 340.9 per cent increase in just one week.

Israeli embassy airlifted 294 of its staff and nationals working in private companies in the country from the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, Sunday, due to the continued spread of the Coronavirus disease, according to the Deputy Chief of Mission, Yotam Kreiman.
