The Tabernacle of Freedoms Ministries church in Yaounde has been sealed after student members of the church refused to wear face masks before being allowed into a baccalaureate examination class.
The three students of the Biyem-Assi high school persistently refused to wear masks, which are obligatory during the Covid-19 pandemic.
It is also a necessity before students are allowed into class to sit the high school final exam through which successful candidates are admitted into university.
The students insisted they had been told by the pastor of their church that wearing masks was diabolical and that the COVID-19 pandemic is a white man’s ploy to eliminate the Black race.
After the unsuccessful intervention of the Principal of the school and administrative authorities, the decision was taken to invite the parents of the students to come persuade them.
Students, school and administrative authorities were however shocked when the parents of the students (including a university professor and a history high school teacher), came and insisted their children must not wear the masks because they were a sign of the devil.
After failing to convince the students and their parents on the obligation to wear a mask before being allowed into the examination class, school authorities asked the parents to sign an undertaking placing the blame for their children’s exclusion from the examination room on themselves (the parents), which they promptly did and left the school premises with their children.
The pastor of the church who was identified as Prophet Ngoa Atangana has since been arrested and detained.
The Governor of the Centre Region, Naseri Bea had , in July, ordered that the church be closed when it was discovered that the self-proclaimed prophet was holding some young members of the church against their will in the church premises.
It should be recalled that last month, Prophet Atangana declared that God had revealed to him that there is nothing like coronavirus, adding that nations are wasting their time and resources on fighting something which does not exist.
“We are asking everybody to go on their knees and pray and know that there is nothing like coronavirus.
“It is God’s punishment for wrongdoing, for the several wars people are fighting in the world.
“A man marries a man and a woman marries a woman so God is very angry”, Thirty-two-year-old Prudence Mayah, one of the church’s group leaders referred to by church members as ‘Rev. Sister’ declared.
The case of the Biyem-Assi examination imbroglio brings into focus the extent to which criminal elements have invaded the Christian church in Cameroon, and in fact, the whole of Africa.
“The leader of the Tabernacle of Freedoms Ministries, Nkoa Atangana is a school dropout who has succeeded in scamming his way into acceptance by gullible and frustrated individuals in search of hope in a country where hope has been sacrificed on the altar of political voodooism”, opines sociologist Ebenye Catherine.
“This is an indication of the extent to which desperation and frustration can reduce a once vibrant and happy people. It is really strange that a university professor and a high school teacher can be brainwashed by a secondary school dropout into compromising the education of their own children”, the sociologist told HumAngle on Thursday.
This is also an indication of the extent to which Covid-19 has turned society upside down.
