Boko Haram: Military Destroys Tactical Center, Kill Fighters in Sambisa

The Air Task Force (ATF) of the Operation Lafiya Dole had destroyed Boko Haram terrorists’ tactical centre and killed some of the terrorist fighters at Yuwe, within the Sambisa forest area, Defence Headquarters says.

The Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, made the statement on Friday, June 19, 2020, in Abuja.

Enenche said that the operation was conducted on June 17 under the ‘Operation Long Reach’ to destroy the terrorist leadership in the North East.

He added that the operation was executed after a series of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) that observed the presence of the terrorists in the settlement.

A solar-panel which the terrorists used to coordinate their operations in the area helped in intelligence gathering before conducting the operation.

“Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets dispatched by the ATF to take out the Command Centre took turns in attacking the location scoring accurate hits,” he said.

The attack, according to the military, led to the destruction of the tactical centre and surroundings as well as neutralisation of several fighters.

“The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, commended the ATF for their dedication and professionalism.

“The Defence Headquarters equally urged them to intensify the air offensive against the terrorists and all other criminal elements in the country,” he said.
