Philip Tatari Shekwo, Nasarawa State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who was kidnapped around 11 pm on Saturday night has been confirmed dead.
Bola Longe, the State Commissioner of Police CP who confirmed the incident on Sunday said the way and manner Shekwo was kidnapped and killed pointed towards murder.
“The intensity of the bullet match on the house and the force effort to gain access to the house is pointing irretrievably to the fact that it was more than kidnapping,” Longe said.
He added that no demands were made by the abductors and the evidence so far suggested a case of murder, not kidnapping.
“And then where we found his body now is too close to the house. When kidnapping is carried out, it’s for profit-making but between the twinkling of an eye, the man was killed and no demand what so ever, I believe it’s assassination,” he said.
He assured that a thorough investigation will be carried out to fish out the criminals and to understand how the murder happened.
A resident of the area who pleaded anonymity narrated the abduction saying the gun battle was intense and lasted several minutes before a sudden silence.
According to reports, several attempts to go through the main entrance of the victim’s home proved abortive as the doors were bulletproof.
However, the abductors succeeded in breaking the burglary proof of the victim’s room window before gaining full access to his room.
Abdullahi Sule, Governor of Nasarawa State, his predecessor, Tanko Almakura, Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, the Police Commissioner of the state and other stakeholders reports say have visited the victim’s residence to condole with his family.
