Zamfara Governor Inaugurates Committee Against Gender-Based Violence

Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria, has inaugurated a 22-man committee to campaign against gender-based violence and abuse of human rights.

The governor said the committee would work effortlessly to ensure that abuse against women and children was tackled.

He charged members of the committee to execute their duties effectively to ensure that harassment, child abuse, sexual assaults were reduced to the barest minimum.

Mrs Aisha Matawalle, the wife of the governor, who chairs the committee, is expected to lead the campaign.


Matawalle said that his administration would do its best to curtail any form of social instability and protect the lives of people in the state.

He added that many children and women in the state were suffering from negligence due to displacement by bandits in the state.

The governor further said the committee would collaborate with some Civil Society Organisations in developing strategic processes in tackling abuses and providing social welfare to the victims.

The committee chair, Aisha, gave assurance that the team would do its best to check gender-based violence and abuse against women and children.
