Ali Darrassa, the leader of the Central African Republic rebel group, Union for Peace in the Central African Republic (UPC) has been appointed the military Chief of Staff of the rebel movement, Coalition of Patriots for Change (CPC).
Darrassa, the self-proclaimed General, who was hiding in the village of Boyo within the periphery of Bambari since the national army and its Rwandan and Russian allies captured his fief of Bokolobo, Friday, March 26, arrived in Nzako within Mbomou in the centre of the country.
“It is strongly believed in certain quarters here that Ali Darrassa is fleeing towards Mboki while others think his presence in Nzako was merely a courtesy visit,” a local resident told HumAngle.
“Though Ali Darrassa spent one month hiding in Boyo within the periphery of Bambari, he had to leave there because his security was not assured.”
“In fact, he no longer feels safe anywhere which is why he has always been on the move recently.”
Local sources say Darrassa went into hiding last week in some parts of Mboki, in Upper Mbomou in the Southeast of the country. But he has been spotted since Friday in Nzako near Bangassou.
“The problem he has there is that the self-proclaimed General, Hassan Guenderou, military chief of staff of the UPC in Mbomou, and close friend of Hassan Bouba, is preparing to go to Bangui on the invitation of Prime Minister Firmin Ngrebada.”
According to reliable sources in Bangui, the Prime Minister wants to use the Minister of Livestock, Hassan Bouba to corrupt Guenderou into sowing seeds of discord within the UPC.
“Ali Darrassa’s presence in Upper Mbomou is to bring order and discipline within the ranks of the UPC,” a source told HumAngle.
Other sources say Ali Darrassa has mining interests in Nzako and is there to supervise his business interests.
