On Tuesday, a group of terrorists stormed Sabon Fili community close to Kaduna Airport, sources said.
A source informed HumAngle that the terrorists killed two persons after firing multiple rounds at their vehicles during the attack around 9 p.m.
One of the vehicles had a father and his kids and he was shot and killed after surviving the initial attack that made his vehicle lose control, the source said.
The armed men walked on foot after discarding their motorcycles in a nearby forest, HumAngle learnt.
The gunfire attracted the attention of troops in the area who responded and engaged the terrorists in a firefight, forcing them to withdraw.
HumAngle learnt a Nigerian Airforce outpost is based in the Airport vicinity and that outpost was involved in the firefight.
The incident happened after a period of peace and security in the area.
In March, HumAngle reported that residents of Sabon Fili Airport community were left terrified following a shootout between terrorists and personnel of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).
Terrorists have continued to pose a serious threat to rural communities and commuters in Kaduna State, including those close to the airport.
In an internal memo dated March 2 and reported by the Cable, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAA) had asked staff to avoid early or late movements along the road to the airport.
The memo read: “The current insecurity state around our airport axis/road cannot be overemphasised.
“The very recent attack on a FAAN staff and other commuters along the airport road close to NDA is a clear testimony. Hence it has become imperative to advise all airport staff to completely avoid early /late hours movement along the airport road.”
All FAAN departments are to adhere strictly to FAAN headquarters early directive on the duty roster, the agency advised.
