On Sunday, the Nigerian Military conducted a ground and air operation against the terror group after air surveillance on their position.

The Nigerian Military on Sunday destroyed and recovered gun trucks and heavy machine guns during a counter-assault on an Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) squad in Borno State, Northeast Nigeria.

Images of the encounter shared online showed gun trucks either destroyed or recovered alongside weapons ranging from AK pattern rifles and heavy machine guns ranging from the W85, NSV, and what appeared to be the Type 77 or upgraded 85 version.

According to PRNigeria, the Nigerian Air Force dispatched a combined force of Alpha jets, L-39ZA and MI-35 gunships against a convoy of eight gun trucks in Lamboa area of Kaga Local Government Area of the state.

The news outlet added that ground and air troops conducted the assault after the Air Force reconnaissance assets had earlier hovered over the location before the airstrikes.

Edward Gabkwet, spokesperson of the Nigerian Air Force was quoted by the outlet as saying it was a very successful operation.

“Of the eight terrorist gun trucks sighted by our surveillance team, the aircraft successfully took out six of the trucks including an unconfirmed number of terrorists that were eliminated,” Gabkwet, a Air Commodore was quoted by the paper as  saying.
