Terrorists On Rampage, Abduct 3 Students In Benue, 2 Housewives In Kaduna

Terrorists Sunday evening abducted three students of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue state, six days after the abduction of Kaduna university students.

Three students of the Federal University Of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State, North-central Nigeria have been abducted by an armed group.

Catherine Anene, spokesperson for the Benue Police command confirmed this in a statement made available to HumAngle on Monday, April 26.

“Information was received from the University of Agriculture, Makurdi that On 24/4/2021 at about 10.20 p.m., three students were kidnapped within the school premises by unknown gunmen.

The Commissioner of Police, Benue State command has ordered a full-scale investigation into the case,” the statement read.

Premium Times reported that Rosemary Waku, the university’s Director of Information, Protocol and Public Relations Unit (IPPR), also confirmed the abduction.

“An unconfirmed number of students of FUAM were abducted at gunpoint by unknown persons from the Campus on Sunday 25th April 2021,” Waku was reported as said.

She noted that the University has reported the incident to the police and all relevant security agencies.

A student who witnessed the incident said the heavily-armed kidnappers came on foot to the Engineering Department from where they took the victims into the bush.

The university administration has already suspended lectures and assured students of their safety while in school.

Waku, however, said that the university has not heard anything from the students or their captors since the unfortunate incident took place.

The abduction is the latest in a spate of attacks targeting tertiary institutions.

It is coming on the heels of the abduction of students of Greenfield University, Kaduna State.

HumAngle had reported the abduction of 22 students of Greenfield University, a privately owned university, located along the Kaduna–Abuja highway in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Northwest Nigeria.

Three of the abducted students had, however, been killed by their captors just 72 hours after they were taken away.

Meanwhile, 29 of the abducted students of the Federal College of Forestry And Mechanisation, Afaka, Kaduna are still in captivity.

Again, terrorists hit Kaduna, kidnap housewives

Terrorists attacked Kaduna, Northwest Nigeria, abducting two housewives at the low-cost area of Zaria, while four others were injured when the terrorists attacked their residence.

Mohammed Jalige, Police Public Relations Officer, Kaduna State Police Command, confirmed the incident to the newsmen on Monday in Zaria.

Jalige said the police were on top of the situation, adding that investigation into the matter was ongoing.

A husband to one of the abducted women, Haruna Sani, said he received the sad news at about 10 p.m. WAT on Sunday.

Sani said he alerted the police who responded immediately and exchanged gunfire for about 25 minutes with the kidnappers.

He, however, said the kidnappers took away his wife, his neighbour’s wife and her three children.

Sani disclosed that the three children were subsequently rescued.

He explained that the kidnappers, who dressed in women outfits, left behind brassiere and hijab in his neighbour’s house as they fled.

Sani also said that four residents were wounded when the kidnappers shot at his daughter who ran out of the house to escape.

Another eyewitness, Muhammadu Buhari said three of those shot were his students while the fourth victim was his neighbour.

He gave the names of those injured as Mus’ab Isa, Aliyu Abdullahi, Hassan Danbuga and Umar Saidu.

“They are all in stable condition after receiving treatment at a hospital,” Buhari said.
