Terrorists referred to as ‘bandits’ by locals over the weekend attacked and killed five persons and kidnapped another five in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria, HumAngle can report.
According to a BBC Hausa report aired on Tuesday, the attack forced more than 500 persons from six communities in the local government area to run away to a neighbouring Merere town in Kebbi State.
The report said the gunmen attacked the towns and set their farms ablaze.
Some of the displaced persons were children and women who are now living in an open place and close to a graveyard in Kebbi.
According to the report, many of the displaced persons from Zamfara State were still trooping into Kebbi State and were begging for food assistance.
One of the victims lamented that they cannot go to their farm without fear of being abducted by the notorious armed men, adding that many farmlands have been set on fire by the bandits.
Another victim, mother of 15 children from Dan Kofar town said the terrorists have killed some of her neighbours and went away with others.
She added that the affected communities are Dan Fasa, Guru, Dogon Ruwa, Bakin Dutse, Bakin Kofa, and Buraya in Maru Local Government of Zamfara State.
The armed men were also reported to have killed a traditional ruler in Gwaram town, Umaru Muhammad, the Marafan Gwaram at Talatar Mafara Local Government Area in Zamfara State.
They also kidnapped eight persons from the traditional ruler’s community.
The report said Muhammad Shehu, the Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer, was not available for comments when contacted as his phone was not attended after several calls.
