Terrorists on Monday invaded Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State, Northwest Nigeria, killed one person and kidnapped 11 others, including a newly wed couple.
The deceased was identified as Malam Sama’ila, popularly known as Supa, who was an uncle to the lawmaker representing Safana Local Government Area in Katsina State House of Assembly.
Auwalu Abu, a resident of Safana, said that “ the group blocked the road linking the area with Asuwar Gora along Gobirawa in Runka village around 9:00am.
“Sama’ila Supa was killed by the gunmen on his way to Runka, four people sustained serious gun wounds and 13 people were abducted by the group.”
He said the criminals abducted a couple who were two weeks ago, adding: “The couple are Ismail and Zainab.
“As I am talking to you now, they are in their custody and we are waiting for them to say their demand.”
HumAngle learnt that in spite of a security checkpoint not too far from the scene of the attack, the terrorists rode on motorcycles and shot up to Gobirawa village in the area.
In an interview, the state lawmaker, Abduljalal Haruna, said his uncle, Supa, was shot when he resisted attempts to kidnap him.
“All these are happening despite the presence of security personnel in the area where my uncle was killed.
“The distance between (the location of the security officials) is approximately 5km to where the gunmen operated freely.”
Haruna said kidnapping had become almost a daily nightmare for residents of communities in the area.
“Last night at Babban Duhu Community, they abducted 13 people but seven of the abductees later escaped and returned home, many others were shot, they are currently responding to treatment at the hospital,” the lawmaker added.
The police in the state have yet to comment on the development.
The incident occurred 24 hours after terrorists abducted 48 people in the neighbouring Batsari Local Government Area.
