Arewa Youth Traders Association of Nigeria has described the continuous terrorism in the region especially Katsina, Kaduna, Niger, Zamfara and Sokoto states as alarming and calls for immediate actions to save the region from being destroyed.
According to a statement issued and jointly signed by the association’s President Alhaji Abubakar Kabir Babawo and its Secretary-General, Malam Nazir Rabi’u Kabir on Tuesday in Kano, Kano State capital said insecurity has increased poverty and unemployment levels across the region.
The group which is an umbrella body of more than 100,000 traders said the killings in agrarian areas of Katsina and Zamfara states led to most farmers abandoning their homes and farmlands which threatens food security.
It added that insecurity has practically killed business activities as many traders that come from various states and neighbouring countries no longer do so for fear of attack.
The action, according to the statement, looks like an orchestrated plan to keep deepening the poverty of the region considering recent happenings in the country.
The group appealed to the federal government and stakeholders to immediately address the problem of insecurity.
