Sudan Armed Men Sack Central African Town

The people of Ndelembe, a locality situated 55 kilometres from Birao on the Bria highway in the prefecture of Vakaga, far northeast of the Central African Republic were thrown into disarray Thursday morning when a group of armed militiamen from Sudan invaded the town.

According to local sources, several persons were wounded during the encounter between locals and foreign invaders.

Huge material damage was also recorded and several dozen houses were razed down by the Sudanese armed men during the attack.

The Sudanese invaders entered the town Thursday night in complete discretion and it was only when they started shooting indiscriminately that the Ndelembe villagers were woken from their sleep.

“I ran for two kilometres in order to get to a point where there was a telephone network so I could alert the authorities in Birao, who in their turn alerted authorities in Boromata before reinforcements were sent to Ndelembe,” Privat Solona, a Ndelembe resident told this reporter by phone.

According to Solona, the invaders occupied the village for nine hours before the arrival of government forces from Boromata who succeeded in routing them after four hours of fighting.

It should be recalled that the town of Boromata, situated 50 kilometres from Ndelembe on the Bria highway was also assailed by Sudanese rebel fighters on Tuesday, December 1.

After having been dislodged from Boromata, the Sudanese promised they would be back and this time, they decided to attack Ndelembe.
