Shodipe, Suspected Serial Killer, Confirms Killing Woman After Escape From Custody

Sunday Sodipe, the suspected serial killer in Akinyele area of Ibadan, Oyo State, has confirmed killing another woman two days after escaping from police custody on August 11.

Shodipe said he killed Mrs Funmilayo Oladeji at her home at when he was shown to newsmen at the Police Command headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, on Wednesday.

The suspect had claimed that his mentor, 50- year-old herbalist, Idris Adedokun, aided his escape from custody.

When asked where he headed after his escape, Shodipe said he went to Akinyele again as instructed by the herbalist and killed the woman as “Baba’’ instructed by using a machete to inflict injuries on her head.

“I inflicted a machete cut on her head.

“The herbalist used to calm me down and reassure me that I would be released from police custody and also instructed me on what to do for him after escaping from custody.

“Baba had been telling officer Funsho to open the gate to allow us to take our bath but the officer did not answer him.

“Baba later told the officer that he needed to drink Regal gin as a herbalist to prevent the spirit from further draining his blood but the officer did not still answer him.

” Baba later blamed me for telling the police and the public that he was the one that sent me to kill and that I would have been released from custody if I did not tell them the truth.

“Baba later told me that something terrible might happen to him if he stayed too long in police custody because of the sacrifice he had not been performing since all these days.

“So, when the police later allowed me to go and bathe in the evening around 7p.m., after Baba had gone to bathe, I used the opportunity to escape and went to Akinyele to kill another woman.

“Baba sent me out and told me to kill the way I used to kill by mentioning his name, Idris Adedokun Yunusa Ajani, and also make some incantations.

“So, I killed the women for baba’s safety,” Shodipe said.

The suspect said that he went to Bodija where he was rearrested on Sunday while assisting some people to push a vehicle.

“I usually put a fez cap to hide my identity. But I later got tired of hiding as I had a premonition that those who asked me to help them push their vehicle would want to get me arrested,” Shodipe said.

Mr Nwachukwu Enwonwu, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, said Shodipe with other suspects would be handed over to the Correctional Centre.

The commissioner said the suspect was kept in police custody because of space constraint and adherence to COVID-19 safety protocols.

Enwonwu said, “The suspect escaped from police custody on August 11 and killed another victim, Funmilayo Oladeji, after that.

Also, other suspects arrested in connection with the robbery attack on the Okeho branch of First Bank were paraded.

The police also paraded those who helped the robbery suspects to rent accommodation in the town before carrying out the operation as well as those caught taking cash after the robbery operation was carried out.

Also others suspects were persons who were allegedly involved in crimes ranging from robbery, murder, burglary, kidnapping, rape to defilement.
