Separatists Kill 4 Gendarmes In Northwest Cameroon

Attacks on Gendarmes in Cameroon have increased, with multiple cases recorded across different parts of the country in recent times.

Four gendarmes attached to the Lassin Brigade of the National Gendarmerie in Bui Division of northwest Cameroon have been killed by Anglophone separatist fighters.

The four soldiers were killed at night on Monday, May 24, 2021 while some arms were carted away by the separatist fighters.

“Around 2 a.m. local time, one of the leaders of the armed separatist groups known as General No Pity attacked the Lassin gendarmerie brigade situated in Bui division, northwest region. Four gendarmes were killed and some arms carted away by the secessionists,” Lele Lafrique, the governor of the northwest region disclosed.

The governor did not disclose the identities of the four slain gendarmes.

Attacks on gendarmes by the separatist fighters are on the rise as this recent attack comes on the heels of another one on the Galim gendarmerie brigade last March during which five gendarmes were killed by Anglophone separatists.

The Galim attack was peculiar because it happened when Anglophone separatists attacked a target in the French-speaking part of the county.

In another rare attack out of English-speaking Cameroon, separatists in Jan. this year killed three gendarmes, one police officer, and two civilians in Matazem, a village in the west region situated not very far away from the northwest regional capital Bamenda.
