Scores Of Protesters Feared Dead at Lekki Toll Gate After Military Opens Fire

At least seven peaceful protesters have been feared dead after being shot by the military at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos.

In several videos from the shootings, the unarmed protesters who have just finished singing the national anthem, were scampering for safety as the bullets hit the air.

Nigerians sorrowfully watched the shootings live from bold protesters who recorded it in real time on instagram, particularly celebrity DJ Switch and Uyi, @Godson45.

As the shootings went on, some brave protesters began to gather the injured and count those who had reportedly died.

Others swiftly began to administer first aid under the poor lighting using the flash lights from phones and makeshift surgical tools sterilised with fire from a lighter.

It has been described as a gross failure on part of the Nigerian government and military who swore to protect the same lives of those they are choosing to kill.

The #EndSARS protest, which has been ongoing for the past two weeks, have been met with hindrances from armed thugs allegedly hired by politicians.

There were also reports of blockage of the funds raised to attend to the needs of protesters such as medical care, payment of bail and provision of security as well.

Earlier in the day, governor of Lagos state Babajide Sanwo-Olu declared a 24 hour curfew which went into effect at 4pm this evening.

Unknown men were also seen removing all cameras from the toll gate shortly after the curfew commenced, leading to protesters and civilians questioning the motives of removing the cameras.

The shooting began shortly after 6pm this evening, at the protesters who chose to defy the curfew and continued to protest at the Lekki Toll Gate.

Numerous videos have surfaced on Twitter and on Instagram where gunshots can clearly be heard and defenceless protesters. The videos can be found below.
