Violent clashes are ongoing between Russian mercenaries of the Wagner Security group and combatants of the Return, Reclamation, Rehabilitation (3R) rebel group in Yelewa, Nana-Mambere district, Northwest of the Central African Republic.
Local sources informed HumAngle that the fighting began on Thursday, April 29, at about 9 a.m. CAT, 10 kilometres from the town on the Bouar highway.
No casualty figure is given, but they pointed that both sides may have recorded a number of injured operatives.
HumAngle learnt that all activities have been halted along the highway from Bouar to Yelewa while residents have been fleeing from their homes to nearby villages or the bushes.
“Our biggest fear now is the aftermath of the fighting because whichever side in the confrontation gains the upper hand, the people are bound to suffer because both the 3R combatants and Russian mercenaries have not been clement to the local populations in the various areas they have occupied,” one visibly frightened woman told HumAngle in Yelewa Thursday evening.
