Rebels Kill 1, Injure 3 Persons In Northwest Central African Republic
CAR soldiers fought CPC and 3R rebels in Abba, Nana-Mbere district, leading to death and injuries after the clash.
One civilian was killed and three others wounded in an attack on Wednesday May 5, by rebels of the Return, Reclamation, Rehabilitation (3R) movement on positions of the Central African Republic defense forces in Abba, Nana-Mbere district in the northwest of the country.
The 3R rebels were fighting alongside combatants of the Coalition of Patriots for Change (CPC). But the Central African Republic forces put up a robust defense forcing the assailants to flee.
According to local sources in Abba, the residents of the sub-district were forced to wake up from their sleep at around 4 a.m. CAT by automatic arms fire.
“The noise was coming from clashes between elements of the Coalition of Patriots for Change and soldiers of the armed forces of the Central African Republic based in the town,” a resident told HumAngle Wednesday evening.
Another eye-witness said: “It was around 4 a.m. that we started hearing gunshots. Light and heavy arms fire intensified near the national army base in Abba. As at now, we are hiding in the bush.”
Calm is reported to have returned to the area as the assailants had been pushed out of the town by the national army. Reinforcements of national combatants and Russian mercenaries arrived in the town Thursday morning, May 6.
The Mambere bridge situated seven kilometres from Abba town on the Bouar highway collapsed two weeks ago under the weight of heavy-duty mineral extraction trucks owned by Chinese companies making it difficult for army reinforcements to access the town.
