Rebel Group, Opposition Party Deny Arrest Of Former CAR President

The Central African Republic, Coalition of Patriots for Change, Chad, others have denied the arrest of former CAR President, Francois Bozize.

Reports by government sources and close associates of the President of the Central African Republic, Faustin Archange Touadera, that former head of state, Francois Bozize was arrested and detained in Chad have been denied by his party, Kwa-Na Kwa (KNK) and the rebel group Coalition of Patriots for Change (CPC) which has been fighting to overthrow the regime.

According to reports in media outlets close to the regime in Bangui, the country’s capital, and social networks, Francois Bozize was arrested at the border with Chad and is currently being interrogated by the Chadian judicial authorities.

The reports alleged that the Chadian authorities are accusing Bozize of several crimes, including rebellion and threatening state security.

Gouandjika Fidele, the Central African Republic Minister Counsellor to the President of the Republic, confirmed the report and was promptly relayed on social media and other media outlets that support President Faustin Archange Touadera.

The information has been widely circulated as the Central African Republic head of state arrived Bangui from Bossangoa after visiting Boda, previously captured by CPC rebels. Government forces supported by Russian and Rwandan mercenaries recaptured Boda.

However, Abakar Sabome, the spokesperson of the rebel CPC, Tuesday, refuted the reports of the arrest of Bozize saying they were the figment of the imagination of some political and military individuals clamouring for attention.

The Chadian government has released a communique declaring that the former Central African Republic head of state has not been arrested and is not detained by Chad. However, Bozize is currently the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by the government in Bangui.

The Chadian government, Bozize’s party Kwa Na Kwa and the rebel Coalition of Patriots for Change (CPC) refute the former president’s arrest allegations. The Touadera government is left out on a limb and would find it difficult to convince the national community of the information’s integrity.
