Kano residents, on Wednesday, woke up to see security agents around the popular ‘’Gadar Lado’’ on Kano-Zaria road by Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH).
The heavy security presence caught residents unaware, inciting fear as they speculated reasons behind the move.
A resident, Sani Aminu Yusufu told HumAngle that the Police,KAROTA, FRSC and Civil Defence personnel took position in the area as early as 6:30 a.m.
“We are scared because we don’t know the reasons behind this unusual presence of security personnel.
“Initially, we thought they were after those operating illegal motor parks but later, we realised that their mission has nothing to do with that,’’ said Yusufu.
HumAngle reports that the security agents took position around various axis of the roundabout, blocking the outbound road to Zaria and mounting checkpoints on the road.
A police vehicle was used to block the road on Wednesday morning at Gadar Lado.
Confirming the development in a telephone interview, Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kano Command, ASC, Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi told HumAngle that it is a joint operation of security agents based on intelligence reports that some group were trying to carry out a protest at the area.
“We were informed that a group is trying to conduct a protest in the area and we need to beef up security so that there would be no breakdown of law and order.
“Safety of lives and property is our responsibility,” the NSCDC Spokesman said.
Most of the strategic locations in Kano metropolis are presently witnessing unusual security presence.
