Protest Erupts As Police Allegedly Kill Resident In Kano

Youths have reportedly taken to the streets of Kano after police allegedly killed one person in the Kofar Mata area of the state on Sunday, October 18, 2020.

The youths, according to the BBC Hausa, claimed that the police were at the Kofar Mata of the Kano Municipal Area to arrest two people but one of them escaped while the other was killed by the police.

The protesters burnt tyres and blocked a road to the Kwari Market in the Kano city on the early morning of Monday, October 19, 2020.

The situation is currently brought under normalcy after the community leaders and the State Commissioner of Police intervened.

BBC Hausa contacted the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Kano State Command, but he said he could not speak on the issue as at the time of this report.

Meanwhile, several protesters against police brutality have also taken to the streets of Sabon Gari Area of the Kano on Monday, October 19, 2020.

A footage uploaded to social media shows the youth chanting anti-government slogans.

Sabon Gari is an area in Kano State where a large number of southerners living in the North reside.
