Police Rescue 4 Kidnap Victims In Kaduna, Arrest Illegal Gun Owner

Police in Kaduna State, Northwest Nigeria have rescued four kidnap victims in the Jema’a Local Government Area of the state.

Mohammad Jalige, police spokesperson in the state made this known in a statement issued on Monday, July 19, 2021.

According to him, police received a distress call regarding a terrorist attack on two moving vehicles in the Bade forest area, noting that the terrorists had reportedly abducted six persons, whom they took into the forest.

He, however, said police operatives had succeeded in rescuing four of the kidnapped persons.

“On the strength of the information, operatives were immediately mobilised to the area, trailed the bandits into their enclaves, engaged them in a fierce shootout and succeeded in rescuing four victims unhurt,” Jalinge said.

He stated that the police were making efforts to rescue the other two kidnap victims, adding that some of the terrorists had escaped “deep into the forest” with bullet wounds.

The police spokesperson said that a similar operation by the police took place on the same day, leading to the arrest of an arms dealer.

“On the July 18, 2021, at about about 11:50 a.m., WAT, operatives of the Kaduna Police Command acted on a reliable information and succeeded in arresting one Musa Danyaro ‘m’ 36 years of Nagogo road Malali GRA Kaduna in possession of a locally fabricated pistol and 3 live polymer-cased 12-guage shotgun shells,” he said.

Jalige said that the operatives had proceeded to search the home of the suspect, where they discovered and recovered one double barreled gun.

He also added that the police had, after the incident, launched an investigation into unlawful possession of arms by the suspect. The command, he said, hoped to apprehend more suspects in the course of the investigation.

Jalige thanked “patriotic citizens for assisting the police with useful information on the activities of criminal elements in their midst,” and urged other citizens to do the same as this would foster “peace and tranquility within and across our communities.”

Terrorists, locally known as bandits, have over time, launched attacks on communities across the Northwest region of Nigeria, killing and displacing many in as they continue with their attacks.
