Police Arrest Kidnapper Who ‘Killed 8-Year-Old Girl’ After Receiving N500,000 Ransom

The Police Command in Kano State on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of Habibu Sale, 24, who allegedly kidnapped and killed eight years old Asiya Tasi’u Muhammad in Chikawa village, Gabasawa Local Government Area after collecting N500,000 ransom for her release.

DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kano State, Northwest Nigeria, informed newsmen that the incident happened on June 6, after Sale allegedly kidnapped Asiya and demanded N10 million as ransom.

He said the suspect reduced the ransom to N500,000 after a series of negotiations.

“The police succeeded in arresting him on November 7 after tracing him to several states of Kaduna, Abuja, Jigawa, Katsina, Abia and Kano where he was finally arrested in front of his house,” said Kiyawa.

He said police investigations revealed that Sale killed the little girl after receiving the ransom and buried her in a shallow grave at the outskirts of Chikawa village to avoid his action being found out by the victim’s parents who lived in the same area with him.

Kiyawa said that Sale kidnapped Asiya when she was sent by her aunt on an errand who happened to be his neighbour.

He said Habu Ahmad Sani, Kano State Police Commissioner, commanded that the body of Asiya be exhumed and handed over to her parents for burial according to the Islamic rites.

Kiyawa said Sale admitted that he carried out the crime alone and that he squandered the N500,000 on drugs, gambling and harlots in Kaduna where he fled to hide for the matter to die down.

Meanwhile, Tasi’u Muhammad Adamu, the father of the victim, who spoke to newsmen at the Police Headquarters, wondered why the suspect killed his daughter after receiving the ransom.

“This is wickedness, I need justice and I absolutely believe that the police will ensure justice is done for my daughter, Asiya,” Adamu said.
