Police in Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria said they have arrested three brothers for allegedly killing one Godfrey Barde, a security guard in the Asero area of the state.
The arrested brothers are: Okiki Mulero 23, Micheal Mulero 21, and Joseph Mulero 17.
Abimbola Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police and the command’s Public Relations Officer disclosed this in a statement released on Monday.
Oyeyemi said the deceased was hit with a plank during an altercation with the three brothers.
He explained that trouble started when one of the suspects, Okiki Mulero, a commercial motorcyclist was denied entrance into the Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD) estate, in Asero, Abeokuta, for carrying more than one passenger, contrary to the rule of the estate.
“This infuriated him and he called his two brothers, Micheal and Joseph Mulero who came to the scene and they jointly attacked the two security guards with planks,” the Police Spokesperson said.
He said Barde, who is one of the security guards, was hit with a plank and he slumped.
“He was subsequently rushed to O&A hospital where he gave up the ghost on Friday 25th of December 2020 while receiving treatment.”
Oyeyemi explained that the case was reported at Obantoko divisional headquarters by members of the executive of Community Development Association of the estate.
“The DPO, CSP Sunday Opebiyi detailed his detectives to go after the suspects and they were apprehended one after the other. All confessed to the commission of the crime.”
He added that the body of the deceased has been deposited in a mortuary for post mortem examination.
Meanwhile, Edward Ajogun, the state Commissioner of Police, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
