Notorious Self-Proclaimed General In Central African Republic Arrested
The militiaman, Hissen, was arrested after a gunfire between some of his operatives and the presidential guard.
A notorious self-proclaimed āGeneralā of auto-defence groups in the Central African Republic capital, Bangui, has been arrested by security forces supported by Russian mercenaries of the presidential guard.
Saddam Hissen was arrested in Ramandji quarter of Bangui this Monday morning, May 3,Ā following a violent gunfire exchange between his militia and elements of the presidential guard in PK5.
The exchange started when elements of the presidential guard tried to arrest Hissen. Four persons were killed during the violent confrontation, including three members of the presidential guard and one auto-defence militiaman.
Local sources revealed that Saddam Hissen and his men had been recruited by the government to carry out cloak and dagger operations for the Bangui regime.
However, when Hissen and his men started to systematically refuse to carry out orders and began executing their own agenda, the presidential guard decided to arrest him.
āHaving worked within the inner circle of the presidential guard, Saddam Hissen knows their modus operandi and so was well prepared when they arrived for him,āĀ a civil society source in Bangui who refused to be identified for security reasons told HumAngle this morning.
āAssisted by his well-armed young militia, Hissen and his boys stood their ground when the presidential guards decided to attack and successfully pushed back the presidential guards, killing three of them, losing one of theirs and wounding six others.ā
After being chased away during the first clashes, a force of government security operatives made up of presidential guards, police officers and gendarmes successfully arrested him this morning in his house.
The self-proclaimed general is expected to be presented to the state prosecutor during the days ahead from where he would be charged to court.
