Northern Groups Storm Katsina To Kick Off #BringBackOurBoys Campaign

Members of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) have arrived in Katsina town to join other protesters from Kano, Jigawa and Katsina states in a peaceful demonstration to demand the rescue of the abducted Kankara schoolboys.

The protest under the hashtag, #BringBackOurBoys, is scheduled to start on Thursday and is expected to proceed to Daura, the hometown of President Muhammad Buhari.

The president, who was greeted with the abduction, few hours after he returned for a weeklong holiday, is still at his home.

Nastura Ashir Sharif, the Coalition’s Chairman, said: “We are in conversation with the parents of the victims and also assured them our maximum support for the rescue of their children.”

The CNG Spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, said “it is appalling folding our arms while bandits are terrorising the nation.”

He added that “the police in Katsina State is seen in a massive reinforcement around the state which calls for caution on the part of authorities against attempts at suppressing legitimate protests that will be conducted peacefully.”

Meanwhile, a former Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Tuesday evening described the abduction of more than 300 boys of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State, by terrorists as heartbreaking.

She said that people using boys as pawns must be held accountable.

Okonjo-Iweala who tweeted the statement on her official Twitter account, wrote: “The abduction of more than 300 schoolboys is heartbreaking.

“My heart goes out to the families of the missing boys. Authorities concerned must do all that is possible to #BringBackOurBoys!”
