Military Airstrikes Kill 82 Terrorists In Katsina, Zamfara Forests

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says the air components of Operations Hadarin Daji neutralised 82 terrorists during air bombardment on Birnin Kogo and Ajjah forests of Katsina and Zamfara states of northwestern Nigeria respectively.

John Enenche, a Major General and Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, who made this known in a statement posted on the Defence social media page, added that several weapons were recovered from the armed terrorists during the operations.

“No fewer than 67 bandits, armed with very high calibre weapons, including Anti-Aircraft (AA) Guns, have been neutralised and several others injured in air interdiction missions executed by the Air Component of Operation HADARIN DAJI at Birnin Kogo forest in Katsina State,” Enenche said.

“In the same vein, about 15 armed bandits were eliminated in airstrikes conducted by the Air Component at Ajjah Forest in Zamfara State.”

The Defence Spokesperson said the two operations were carried out on Monday, November 23, after gathering intelligence reports that led to the identification of the terrorist hideouts.

According to him, scores of the terrorists along with hundreds of rustled cattle were hiding in the forest.

“The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets and helicopter gunships dispatched by the Air Component to attack the 2 locations took turns in engaging the target areas, scoring accurate hits on the caves, which are used by the armed bandits to shield themselves from airstrikes,” he said.

“The Military High Command commends the troops and other security agencies operating in the North-West zone for their professionalism and urges them to remain resolute in order to eradicate all armed bandits.”

Enenche urged people living close the forests to report any person with suspicious injuries to the nearest security outpost for further investigation.

“Members of the public within the affected areas are please requested to promptly report any persons with suspicious injuries to the nearest security or law enforcement agency post,” he said.
