Labour Unions Organise Special Prayer Against Insecurity In Niger State

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have directed their members to converge for special prayers “to seek divine intervention in the area of insecurity and the welfare of civil servants.”

In a circular signed by the state chairmen of the NLC and the TUC, Yakubu Garba and Tanimu D. Yunusa respectively, the unions directed their members and friends of the unions to converge on Unguwan Daji Eid prayer ground on Thursday for the prayers.

Members of the two labour centres who are Christians are also expected to observe the special prayer session at the Labour House, IBB Road, Minna.

Niger State is one of the states in North Central Nigeria experiencing incessant attacks from terrorists, mainly in Shiroro Local Government Area.

Sharing boundaries with some states of the Northwest region troubled by insecurity, the state has become a wing and security loophole transferring criminals to the central part of Nigeria.

Abubakar Sani Bello, the Governor of Niger State, has admitted the security challenges in the state attributing it to the influx of criminals to the state through its vast forest.

“Niger State shares boundaries with some North-Western states that are bedevilled by insecurity challenges.

“This has made policing very cumbersome due to the influx of some criminal elements taking advantage of the large expanse of forests in our state,” the governor said.

Boko Haram has also confirmed allegiance from terrorists in the state in a video obtained by HumAngle.
