Kidnappers Demand N50 Million To Release Children of APC Chairman In Zamfara

Kidnappers have demanded N50 million as ransom money to secure the release of seven children of Alhaji Sani Gyare Kadauri, the Chairman of All Progressive Party (APC), Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria.

Zamfara State is one of the states under heavy attack by kidnappers and other criminal elements in the Northwest who ask for ransom in exchange for victims of their criminality.

Criminal activities started as localised disputes between herders and farmers over access to land but metamorphosed into terror activities majorly in Katsina, Kaduna and Zamfara states.

Several people have fled their homes due to the extreme violence perpetrated by the criminals, who have resisted efforts by the law enforcement agencies to restore order.

The seven children of Kadauri – Bashar, Abubakar, Haruna, Habibah, Sufyan, Armaya’u and Mubarak, were reportedly kidnapped on Friday, Jan.8, at their residence in Kadauri village.

Kadauri told journalists that the abductors contacted him and demanded N50 million or they would kill the children if he refused to fulfil their demand.

He said that he was in a state of depression as he could not get the amount requested by the kidnappers even if he would sell all what he possessed.

“I’m sad. I feel as if I’m a stranger in this land and I don’t know what to do to get the amount requested by these heartless people,” he said.

Kadauri said he was disappointed with the way the government had abandoned him even though they knew what happened to him.

He said neither his local government chairman nor the secretary to the state government, who were close to him, had contacted him on the matter.

Kadauri said security officers were contacted when the terrorists entered the village but the abductors conducted their operations without any resistance.

He said the police did not arrive at the village until about three hours after the terrorists had already left.

Kadauri appealed to the government, both at state and federal level, to assist him in securing the release of his children.
