#June12thProtest: South-South Governor Warns Against Demonstration

Ben Ayade, Governor of Cross River State has threatened to prosecute anyone found violating the ban on June 12 protest across the state.

Ben Ayade, Cross River State Governor, South-south Nigeria says the state government would not allow any procession relating to June 12 Democracy Day celebrations in the state.

Ayade in a statement by Christian Ita, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, said the decision to ban all forms of processions in the state was based on the prevailing insecurity challenge in the country.

The Governor advised anyone or group of persons wishing to mark the June 12 Democracy Day to do so quietly within the confines of their homes.

“Due to the prevailing security situation in the country, the government will not permit any procession or gathering under any guise on June 12 which is designated as Democracy Day,” the statement reads.

He urged parents to keep a firm grip on their children and wards, warning that anyone found violating the ban would face the wrath of the law.

The Governor however assured all citizens that the state government would continue to protect lives and properties in the state.
