ISWAP Launches Fresh Attacks After Overrunning Two Military Bases
In Dikwa, a town in Northeast Nigeria, the United Nations humanitarian hub was stormed by the insurgents forcing aid workers to seek shelter in a bunker.
The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), a breakaway Boko Haram faction, has launched a new wave of attacks on Gajiram and Dikwa after its insurgents earlier stormed Army bases in Bukarti and Dikwa, both communities in Northeast Nigeria.
The security situation in parts of Northern Borno over the past few weeks has become fluid and volatile. HumAngle learned of ongoing insurgent activity in the garrison towns of Dikwa and Gajiram.
Late on Monday and early Tuesday, ISWAP stormed the towns and bases located in Bukarti and Dikwa in Yobe and Borno states respectively.
HumAngle understands that the insurgents destroyed equipment in Dikwa super camp before withdrawing. Similarly, in Burkati, they set vehicles and facilities ablaze.
In Dikwa, the United Nations humanitarian hub was stormed by the insurgents forcing aid workers to seek shelter in a bunker. A Nigerian military reinforcement sent to Dikwa was ambushed while still en route.
Gajiram is the headquarters of Nganzai Local Government Area of the state while Dikwa town is the headquarters of Dikwa Local Government Area.
