ISWAP Kills 4 Policemen, 7 Villagers In Northeast Nigeria
Police in Yobe state, Northeast Nigeria have revealed that ISWAP killed 11 people in fresh attack.
On Wednesday, the police in Yobe State, Northeast Nigeria, confirmed that four police officers and seven villagers were killed by Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) members in the Bayamari area of the state.
HumAngle learnt that the slain police officers were reportedly protecting the villagers when the terrorists attacked.
They were overpowered in gun-shooting combat with the insurgents on Tuesday, HumAngle gathered.
In the process, some villagers were hit by stray bullets from the exchange.
Seven of the villagers were confirmed dead immediately.
Dungus Abdulkarim, police spokesman for Yobe State command, confirming the incident told HumAngle in a phone conversation that “there was an attack on Bayarima and four of our officers died while trying to repel the attack.”
Mohammed Yerima, a Brigadier General and spokesman for the Nigerian Army when contacted by Humangle about the incident, said he was yet to know the incident’s full details.
“The full report of the incident is yet to get to my table. I have, however, called for a full briefing,” Yerima said.
The attack comes amidst strong military campaigns by the Nigerian Army against the insurgents who are fleeing their base to find refuge elsewhere.
