A female suicide bomber who had been infiltrated into the locality of Ldaotsaf by the Boko Haram terrorist group was neutralised by Cameroonian troops as she was about to detonate an explosive device strapped to her body.
The incident took place in the night of Wednesday, December 16, in Mayo-Moskota in the Far North Region of Cameroon and is only being revealed now.
A spokesperson of the security forces in the area disclosed the information on Monday to HumAngle.
“The individual discretely infiltrated into the village and was actually searching for a target where to detonate the explosive she was carrying in her body,” the spokesperson of the force said.
According to eyewitness accounts in the village, “There were three suicide bombers who entered the village supervised by combatants of the Boko Haram terrorist sect who had encircled the village and started shooting into the air”.
“People were running helter-skelter for fear for their lives. The suicide bombers took advantage of the confusion to mix with the crowd that was heading towards the military camp,” an eyewitness told HumAngle.
He stated that it was when they were trying to fit into the crowd that some villagers identified them.
“The villagers who were armed with clubs and other local weapons took on the kamikaze ladies wounding one seriously. The wounded one was eventually finished off by the soldiers while her two companions succeeded in escaping unhurt.”
The explosive belt of the suicide bomber was eventually defused by the military.
