Fatal Accident Claims 11 Lives In Kano

Eight persons were reported dead while six others sustained injuries, in a ghastly motor accident that happened on Thursday at Dakare village along Wudil-Bauchi highway in Garko Local Government Area of Kano State, Northwest Nigeria.

Kabiru Ibrahim Daura, the Kano State Public Enlightenment Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who confirmed the incident to journalists, said 20 persons were involved in the auto crash.

Daura said two vehicles, a Volkswagen Sharon space wagon and a bus were involved in the accident, adding that the Road Traffic Investigation Team has been deployed to the scene to examine the causes of the accident.

He explained that all the victims were taken to Garko General Hospital for treatment.

An eyewitness, Akibu Hamisu who is a resident of Dakare village, explained that the accident occurred when a motorcycle driver wanted to overtake the Sharon space wagon that was coming from Garko town to Kano metropolis.

He stated that the driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed into another bus.

Hamisu, however, added that the death toll rose 11 from the initial eight that were reported to have died on the spot.
