Abdullahi Ganduje, Governor of Kano State, Northwest Nigeria has commiserated with the families of 16 accident victims who died along Kaduna-Abuja expressway while on a business trip to Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital.

The Governor during a visit to the families of the victim at Dambatta village, Kano on Saturday also gave out the sum of N1.6million to them, a statement by  Abba Anwar the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ganduje stated.

“Families of the deceased persons got N100,000 each,” the statement said.

“When we got the information of the accident that involved 16 people from Dambatta Local Government Area and another one from Kura Local Government Area, as we have just learnt, we were shocked by the tragedy,” Ganduje was quoted as saying.

The Governor visited the town with some of his Commissioners, party leaders and elders, Advisers, Heads of Agencies and many other government functionaries, Anwar said in the statement.

HumAngle reported that the 16 persons died in the lone accident on Kaduna-Abuja expressway.

As he condoled the family, Ganduje said the tragedy was from God and asked for prayers for the deceased.

“…and all of us should bear in mind that the tragedy was from God …what is left for us is to continue praying for them.”

One of the families, Sulaiman Muhammad, who represented others, commended the governor for the kind gesture and his concern.

“We are happy that the governor is here with us,” he said.

Wada Shehu, who represented the District Head of Dambatta, also appreciated the visit by the governor and the cash gift to the families.
