Protesters in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, were attacked by thugs armed with horns, clubs and machetes during an otherwise peaceful demonstration on Wednesday.
Hundreds of #ENDSARS protesters had occupied the popular and busy Berger Roundabout when the thugs violently attacked them and destroyed vehicles in the vicinity.
HumAngle learnt that some of the thugs were caught and disarmed by protesters.
Meanwhile, injured attackers and protesters were moved to the hospital.
At least one person was handed over to personnel of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps in the area.
The protest in Abuja is part of an ongoing protest across the country against police brutality and human rights violations.
On Sunday, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Mohammed Adamu, announced the dissolution of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and transfer of personnel of the unit to other units and formations of the Nigeria Police Force.
However, this did not stop the protests as the protesters expressed reservations about the processes and the lack of concern for victims from police brutality.
When HumAngle visited Berger, some protesters were barricading entry points while other chanted and shared refreshments.
