Drunken Man Drowns In A Hotel Pool

A 42-year-old man identified as Izuchukwu Achusim, on Saturday evening drowned in a swimming pool in a hotel in Fegge, Onitsha, Anambra State, Southeast Nigeria during an outing with his girlfriend.

HumAngle learnt that the victim, who had gone to the hotel with a lady, got intoxicated after a heavy consumption of alcohol and plunged into the deepest part of the pool where he lost control of himself and gulped a lot of water.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday and said it happened around 8.30p.m. on Saturday.

Mohammed said, “on August 15, 2020, at about 8.30p.m.,there was a report at Central Police Station Onitsha that one Izuchukwu Achusim of No 35 Guest House Street, Fegge, went to Lotus Garden Hotel in Onitsha with his girlfriend.


“However, victim who was said to be drunk, jumped into the deepest part of the pool and got drowned.

“The hotel manager and other guests pulled the victim out and rushed him to Waterside Hospital, Onitsha, for medical attention but he was later certified dead by a medical doctor on duty.

“Scene was visited by police detectives and corpse photographed and deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.”

Mohammed said investigation was ongoing on the matter to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.

He urge members of the public who lacked swimming skills to always take precautionary measures by using life jackets in order to avert similar incidents.
