Division In Mali Over Composition Of New Government

The newly-formed government of President Bah N’Daw in Mali has not received the unanimous approval of the various political forces that contributed to the fall of the government of former President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.

Two days after the designation of the members of the new government, which has to pilot the country through the 18-month transition, the June 5 Movement – Rassemblement des Forces Patriotique (M5-RFP) has completely dissociated itself from the new team.

According to a document signed by the Strategic Committee, a copy of which HumAngle procured, the M5-RFP indicated that contrary to certain information circulated by national and international media as well as on social media, the M5-RFP has no representatives in the government.

Therefore, it said, no member of the government can claim to represent it or act on its behalf.

However, the June 5 Movement – Rassemblement des Forces Patriotique (M5-RFP) has taken note of the putting in place of the transitional government by the transition authorities on Monday, October 5, 2020.

Meanwhile, “the M5-RFP profoundly regrets that its constant wish for a successful transition was not understood and taken into account during the period of discussions on the transition.

“Also, during the designation of the President and Prime Minister of the transition, talk less of the putting into place of the government” which took place when its delegation was in discussions with the Prime Minister.

The declaration underlines that “after assuring the M5-RFP and recalling its key and decisive role in the change in Mali, its delegation was put in waiting until the surprise announcement of the composition of the new government”.

The M5-RFP recalls that it is not fighting for positions.

It added that when it was called upon by the former president to participate in a government of national unity, it clearly indicated that it was neither demanding nor taking part in the government.

“The M5-RFP is thus legitimate in saying that the new government which composition violates Law Number 052 on the promotion of gender, has not disconnected itself from the system which it fought against.

“It also does not bring the change the Malian people aspired for and because of which it paid with the ultimate sacrifice: the blood of its martyrs for which justice must be rendered without delay”, and M5-RFP source declared.

The M5-RFP reaffirmed its determination to achieve its fight for a new Mali, and this in spite of repeated attempts of marginalization.

The movement which fought relentlessly against the government of former president Boubacar Keita said it was conscious of its responsibilities.

“The M5-RFP, strengthened by the engagement of all its components, without exception, to work untiringly for the success of the process of change, calls on its militants and sympathisers to remain mobilized and wait for its call for a true rupture with the old system, for real change through the Rebirth of Mali,” it added.

This declaration is seen as a warning to the new authorities in Mali.
