#DemocracyDay: We Will Not Hesitate To Deal With Criminals – Buhari
The Nigerian President has once again, sent a strong warning to criminals wreaking havoc in the country.
Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, says his administration would not hesitate to deal with criminals profiting from the state of insecurity in the country.
In his nationwide broadcast on Saturday, June 12 to mark Nigeria’s Democracy Day, President Buhari noted that criminals have continued to profit from the ugly state of insecurity in the nation.
This, he said, stems from the misunderstanding that the democratic nature of Nigeria as a state would prevent his administration from tackling them.
âUnfortunately, like in most conflict situations, some Nigerian criminals are taking undue advantage of a difficult situation and profiteering therefrom with the misguided belief that adherence to the democratic norms handicaps this Administration from frontally and decisively tackling them,â Buhari said.
He assured Nigerians that all âobstaclesâ would be addressed to ensure that perpetrators of crimes would be brought to justice.
âWe are already addressing these obstacles and we will soon bring some of these culprits to justice.”
Nigeria has been witnessing an unprecedented level of insecurity in the past years. According to Amnesty International, a total number of 159 persons were killed between June 5 and June 9, 2021 alone in the country.
