The COVID-19 vaccination in Gabon has focused on three hardest hit provinces in the country as the chinese Sinopharm vaccination continues.

Six weeks after the launching of the national COVID-19 vaccination campaign against the COVID-19 in Gabon, the National Vaccination Committee (NVC) reports that 8,515 people have so far been vaccinated.

According to the NVC, of the 8,515 vaccinated, 6,737 were men while 1,778 were women, noting that all those vaccinated received the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine.

The committee indicated that the number is drawn from the 8,982 persons who had voluntarily registered to be vaccinated as of May 5. Of these numbers, 3,849 persons have already taken the second dose of the vaccine.

The vaccination campaign is centred mostly in the three provinces most hit by COVID-19.

Figures given by the National Vaccination Committee revealed that 7,669 persons were vaccinated in the Estuaire province, 343 in Haut-Ogooue, and 503 in Ogooue-Maritime.

As of Thursday, May 6, 23,201 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in Gabon, 19,740 have been successfully treated and 140 have been reported dead.
