COVID-19: KNSG Trains Over 800 Patent And Proprietary Medicine Vendors On Preventive Measures

The Kano State Government has trained 852 Patent and Proprietary Medicine Vendors from the 484 wards in the state as parts of measures to curtail community transmission of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Executive Secretary, Kano State Private Health Institutions Management Agency, Dr Usman Tijjani Aliyu stated this during an interview with newsmen on Tuesday evening shortly after the two days capacity building for the drug vendors held in Kano state.

He said the training became crucial due to the important role Patent and Proprietary Medicine Vendors play in the delivery of health care services to people in the community.

“They are very close to the people and in many instances they are mostly the first point of call for people while seeking medical attention for drugs and medical consumables.

“Hence, they needed to be trained on how to protect themselves from the novel coronavirus and their clients so as to check community transmission,’’ said Aliyu.

He explained that the success of the training was achieved with the support of the state ministry of health and the DFID Lafiya program.

The beneficiaries of the training, Patent and Proprietary Medicine Vendors appreciated the Kano state government and the agency for including them in the scheme of such capacity building which would go a long way in the discharge of their health services to the people.
