COVID-19: KNSG Distributes PPEs To 538 Schools Ahead Of Reopening

Kano State government on Saturday distributed Personal Protection Equipment (PPEs) to 538 public and private secondary schools ahead of their reopening to enable final year students to write the West African Senior School Certificate Examination from August 17, 2020.

The Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, represented by his Deputy who is also the Chairman of the task force on COVID-19, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, said the PPEs would be distributed to schools free as the government planned trial resumption of public schools.

The items included facemasks, thermometers, hand sanitisers, hand gloves and glasses.

The governor said that the distributions of PPEs to students and their teachers was part of the administration’s effort to check the spread of COVID-19.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Muhammad Sanusi Kiru, said that a trial resumption of schools would begin on Sunday, August 10, 2020.

He warned that the PPEs should not be sold.

Last week, the state government commenced measures to reopen schools, including fumigating public and private institutions and merging some examination centres.
