Court Remands Wakili, 3 Others For Alleged Kidnapping, Murder
Isikilu Wakili, an alleged mastermind of abductions and killing in Oyo State, Southwest Nigeria has been remanded in a correctional centre with three other suspects by a Magistrate Court.
A magistrate court in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, Southwest Nigeria, on Tuesday, remanded 72-year-old Iskilu Wakili, alleged to have been the mastermind of several cases of kidnappings and killing in the Oke-Ogun area of the state.
The court ordered three other persons —including two of his sons— Abu, 45, Samaila, 27, and Aliyu Manu, 20, to be remanded in a correctional facility, pending the suit.
HumAngle reported how Wakili was arrested by members of the Oodua People’s Congress, (OPC) on Sunday, March 7, after a firefight.
His arrest generated controversy, as the OPC members responsible for his arrest were also arrested by the police, for alleged involvement in arson and murder.
The police had, however, released the three men, two days after their arrest, on health grounds.
On Tuesday, the police arraigned Wakili alongside others before Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Idowu, on six-count charges bordering on conspiracy, murder, kidnapping and armed robbery.
Adewale Amos, the prosecuting counsel, told the court that suspects had conspired to commit several crimes.
On Oct. 20, 2015, Wakili and other suspects caused the death of Akinwale Akande, 32, a police corporal while performing his lawful duty, Amos told the court.
He also alleged that the suspects had kidnapped a woman and robbed her of the sum of N100,000.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 316, 324 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code of Oyo State 2000.
The presiding judge did not take the plea of the suspects for lack of jurisdiction. The judge, after hearing the case, ordered that Wakili and his sons be remanded in Abolongo correctional facility, Oyo state.
Idowu also ordered the police to return the case file to the state directorate of Public Prosecution, (DPP). The case was adjourned to May 17.
